As we approach the last quarter of 2014 it is good to evaluate where you are in your hiring plan and see what challenges you may face for the remainder of the year. Each region has specific needs and challenges so it is important to understand them in context. Here are several things to consider for the rest of 2014 and moving into the new year.
Mobile Recruiting.
Almost everyone today uses a smart phone or tablet device regularly. In fact, the number is over 91%. Many of these smart device users access the internet strictly through their mobile phones. 7 out of 10 job seekers are using their phones to search for jobs. Be sure to evaluate your mobile recruiting strategy to target these potential employees. Work with your web designer to ensure that your information is easy to access on a phone or tablet.
Employment Skills Gap.
Recruiters are indicating that there is still a significant gap in many required skills on today’s market. Not every unemployed candidate has the skills it takes to be a part of today’s changing job landscape. Job seekers are being advised to pursue continuing education to improve skills. When creating job posts, it is important to be clear about requirements and expectations so applicants will know what skills you need. By being thorough in the job description you will eliminate many of the unqualified resumes.
The Use of Visual Media.
Major job boards are losing the recruiting battle to social media, but even LinkedIn and Facebook will face competition this year. Large corporations, including Starbucks, have started using Instagram to assist them in sourcing passive candidates. Just like Twitter, Instagram makes use of hashtags (#) to index searches on their site. Search a term relevant to your open position and you may unlock hidden candidate. Companies are also using the site Pinterest to attract candidates to their company. Many people like visual representations of your company, your product, or even your job openings. Video services such as Skype and Google+ Hangouts are also changing the scope of long distance interviews. Using these free services you can meet face to face with a candidate in another location before paying for their travel to an interview. This step can help narrow down the field of candidates.
