Recent graduate: consider these tips when looking for a job.

As we all know the job market is tough for graduating college seniors right now. However, that doesn’t mean that it is all despair and unemployment in your future. When it comes to finding a job online, there is always hard work and active networking that can be done. If you’re graduating this May we wanted to share some tips that will come in handy while you’re looking for your entry-level job in your career of choice.

  • Build and impressive resume. One of the biggest mistakes new job seekers make is not reviewing their resume enough to ensure that it is error-free and engaging to the reader. Keep your format consistent throughout. Be very clear about the important information like your degree and experience. Showcase your skills with data and accomplishments. Talk about leadership positions you held in school. Most importantly, customize the document to draw parallels between your experience and what the employer needs.
  • Build your brand online. Many companies today are looking online for the newest talent. Manage your social media and make sure that you put your best foot forward on all of your profiles, including Facebook. Ask professors or managers to provide recommendations on LinkedIn. Consider a website and a blog. Buying the domain of your first and name plus “dot com” is a great way to manage your online reputation. Build an online portfolio and a blog where you can share your expertise. Finally, make sure you lock down the right privacy settings to avoid unnecessary issues.
  • Network in your industry. If you’ve completed an internship don’t leave without talking to your supervisors about their experience finding their job. Make connections in the local community, attend events, and join groups on LinkedIn and Facebook. The more people in your network the greater an opportunity you have to meet your next employer. Apply everywhere and don’t limit yourself to your expectations. Be confident when you speak with someone about your career path and your desires
